Alien Throne: Final outcome.

Once the whole throne was covered, I then stay painted the throne n various different greens, blacks and greys. I then painted the latex covering and inserted the seat.

After both sides of the throne were covered in the bin bags I made a spine structure and then secured it along the back of the throne.

The biggest stage in the making of the throne was covering the structure to get the over all skin look.

Using heavy duty bin bags I melted them onto the structure of the throne with a hot air gun.

After filling out the bottom of the throne I decided to carve into the foam and polystyrene, to give the throne a more defined shape.

The sculpture for the latex seat covering finished and ready to be "hot air gunned" and then covered in layers of liquid latex.

Once the basic structure was built I began building out the bottom of the throne so I would look like it had grown from the ground like a creature.

I began to make my sculpture/mould for the seat of the throne. My aim is to make the seat expand like it is breathing, for this I will need to make a bladder that inflates and then deflates, however this will come later on. Once this mould is finished I will then paint X amounts of layers of liquid latex over the mould so once dry I can stretch the shape over the bladder.

Specialist Pathway: Aliens

My current project is called Specialist Pathway. This is the project I've been waiting a while for as it is our task to pick any subject matter revolving around either birth, life or death. I have to then design and create a prop or a set. I was immediately drawn to the idea of life, and the crux of my subject matter would be aliens. IS THERE INTELLIGENT LIFE BEYOND OUR PLANET?

After deciding on my subject matter relatively quickly I knew what I wanted to create: An Alien throne.

Being a HUGE fan of all the Alien films, including the amazing PROMETHEUS, and the special effects behind the films, I knew I was going to take some inspiration from the films and one of my favourite artists: H. R. Giger.
